Four-star hotel in Ryedale, North Yorkshire

O’Neill Associates worked as part of the project team to secure planning consent for a new four-star hotel at Sandburn Hall, a successful family-run leisure business in Ryedale, North Yorkshire.

The Practice worked with the client and architect to progress proposals from an early stage for high-quality guest accommodation supporting the established business at its 1,000-acre estate with championship golf course, restaurant and function rooms.

Work involved pre-application discussions with the Council’s Head of Planning and consultation with the Parish Council and residents, and demonstrating the need for on-site accommodation and the positive contribution the development will make to the local economy and tourism in context of planning policy protecting the character and appearance of the countryside.

The 40-bedroom scheme is the first significant new-build hotel development between York and the coast for more than 20 years.
