University of York Sports Village

O’Neill Associates acted on behalf of the University of York to obtain planning consent for a new £9 million sports facility at its new Heslington East campus.

The York Sport Village provides indoor facilities including a competition-standard 25m swimming pool, 100-station fitness suite, exercise floor space and treatment room; as well as floodlit outdoor all-weather playing facilities including a full-size 3G pitch and three five-a-side pitches.

The state-of-the-art facility was co-funded by the University and York City Council and is open to University staff and students as well as members of the public and represents a major enhancement of sports provision in York.

The Practice worked with the University to secure an agreement with the Council for the provision of community use of the facilities, and to address planning issues including those relating to building design, visual impact, and compliance with the requirements for the wider Campus East development.
